Brain And The Process Of Learning
Teaching is all about facilitating a learning experience for
students so that the stated outcomes of a given course are learned by them. In
order to apply differentiated instructions, today teachers are required to have
a solid understanding of cognitive components linked with the process of
learning. It is essential to understand how our brain processes information and
how we encode, retain and retrieve information, to offer and use better techniques
that facilitate learning in students as a whole.
In an attempt to know better about the learning process of
students and after analyzing quite a few of the related resources available
online, I found this one resource that caught my attention. Basically this
resource offers insight on the information processing theory and the different
school of thoughts that have over time developed the basis of this theory.
This article by Stacey, T. Lutz and William, G. Huitt “Information
Processing And Memory: Theory and Applications “Information Processing And Memory: Theory and Applications” discusses how a person
learns, acquires information and recall prior retained information. The article
basically offers information on how considering the psychological area of
cognition as a whole, studies the mind broadly and defines how people encode information,
structure and store it, and retrieve and use it.
The article discusses the primary area of memory in
cognition, along with discussing the various theories presented by different
scholars and how the theories differed or complemented each other. Further light
is shed on the stage model where the three stages of memory, the sensory, short
term and long term memory are defined in detail. The article also discusses
other theories of information processing before shedding light on how memory
and information processing can be developed.
All in all, the article offers great insight on information
processing and how permanent storing of information can be facilitated.
Another web article that I am reviewing in this blog is the “Brain Based Learning”
article that discusses in general what brain based learning is and how it is
aiding the learning process today. The article briefly discusses how and what
affects the brain and how that conditions affects upon the learning process.
What is worth mentioning in this article is that along with mentioning the importance
of brain based learning today, it also discusses how far the findings go in
term of implying it in real life situations.
Hopefully you will have a great time reviewing these two
articles, along with attaining better understanding of the two concepts, the
articles shed light on.
